Grass-of-Parnassus

Grass-of-Parnassus Parnassia palustris

11 September, Beeston, Norfolk

Native. Found in relatively sparse, low-growing vegetation flushed with calcium-rich water, this species is still relatively widespread in northern Britain but has vanished from most of the south. Even in Norfolk, it is found in far fewer localities than previously. Whatever, it is amongst the most beautiful of British flowers.
