Field Pansy

Field Pansy Viola arvensis

Little Barningham , Norfolk, 2 October

Introduced sometime before 1600 (and thus an 'archaeophyte' ) this species is a common weed of arable fields, favouring light, well-drained soils. Indeed, it is one of the commoner arable weeds in Norfolk, especially amongst Sugar Beet.
