Toothwort

Toothwort Lathraea squamaria

2 April, Hastings

Native. This strange plant is parasitic on a variety of woody plants, including Hazel, Ash and Wych Elm, attaching itself to their roots. The pallid flowers appear in the early spring and indeed, look like a row of cadaverous teeth.
